thoughts on (and my first!) "what i wore," and this week's instagram 9

Stephanie over at Klo'ver had an interesting tweet about how she's been considering doing a "What I Wore" post, but was concerned as she was "a bit too shy" and had a "pretty normal wardrobe."  I suffer from the same problems: I've always enjoyed looking at others' "What I Wore" posts, as I have a soft spot for pretty outfits and unique takes on things like layering, color blocking, pattern-mixing... however, for the most part my usual day-to-day attire consists of jeans, comfy shoes, and maybe a cute (or geeky) top.  I also very much embrace messy hair!

I've also noticed that I've felt strangely vain while attempting to take photos of myself, but manage to make my way through it by thinking, "This is not so much for everyone else to look at, but for me to look back on."  Really, my 'self-portraits' are a part of my incessant need to document my life and thoughts in one way or another, so I can create memories to look back on.  I'm a very sentimental person, a nostalgist, even, and this blog is a part of that -- I want to look back one day, read through these entries, look at these pictures, and be able to reminisce fondly on this time in my life.

I'm young, I'm engaged, I'm ecstatic about life --
why wouldn't I want to remember every detail?

So I present to you, dear readership, my first-ever "What I Wore" post.  It's absolutely nothing exciting, and I'm sure I'll look back at this one day and wonder what the hell I was thinking... but right now, this is where I'm at, and hopefully it'll encourage other "nostalgists" to do the same.

Sunglasses:  Target.  Cardigan: Thrifted.  Aperture Laboratories tank:  Valve store.  Scarf (belt): Gifted.  Pants: Wet Seal.  Shoes:  Blowfish.

See?  Nothing special, but one day in the future, when I'm wondering what I was like when I was twenty-four and living in the Bay Area -- boom!  Look no further.
It also goes to show that you don't need a vast, quirky vintage wardrobe to make a What I Wore post.  Don't get me wrong, I own some super-cute vintage dresses and flowy, feminine skirts and quite a few pairs of shoes from Seychelles... but jeans are okay too.

Moving on.  :)

I know everyone's all up in a tizzy about Facebook buying Instagram... and as much as I'm not on Facebook's side -- as much as I can be while still having a Facebook -- I'm still using Instagram.  And I'm enjoying it.  It's such a neat little social network, and offers me lots of eye-candy throughout the day!
I'm going to try to start this feature on my blog, called The Instagram 9.  Ideally, it will be weekly, and ideally, I'll have taken at least 9 photos with Instagram that week.  I'm very much a creature of habit, so maybe having a blogging habit wouldn't be so bad!

Here's this week's Instagram 9:

From L to R:
Row one:  Rainy bay area morning, my first self-portrait on Instagram, coffee break from work
Row two:  Preparing to rice-cooker-steam my first artichoke, working on my About Me page, Pogo drinking in spring sunshine
Row three:  My awesome new camera strap from FunkyMutt at Etsy, A Game of Things with friends, delicious mac 'n cheese at Homeroom

Oh yeah!  Did you notice?
My "About Me" page is up!
Click here (or on the link in
the sidebar) to check it out!

Thanks for reading!!

  1. I'm obsessed with instagram myself, I just followed you ^_^. I was surprised when I saw your comment on my blog because just two hours prior I found YOUR blog through stephanie aka Klover and subscribed to your feed. Nice to meet a fellow nerd.

Funnily enough, the reason I even considered WOW was because I had played so much Minecraft that I burnt out! I LOVE that game, but go through periods where I either don't play or it's all I do in my free time lol.

    1. Yay! I'm following you back on Instagram. And I found you through Stephanie's blog, also - fortuitous! Nerds unite! ;)

I've taken a time-out from Minecraft (there was an unfortunate lava incident that nearly had me in tears; at that point it's break time) but I have a feeling the moment it comes out for XBox, I'm done for.

I hope you're feeling better, by the way. :)
