jackpot!

One of our neighbors recently moved out of the cottage behind our house, and they ended up curbing this awesome bookcase:

It has doors (bonus!), and the doors have the ability to act as picture frames (DOUBLE BONUS!).  It originally had the map of Israel in the top section, and some pretty patterned fabric in the bottom section, but Jordan scored some pretty incredible prints from Stumptown Comics Festival back in Portland and thought it would make an awesome showcase!

These prints came from the same booth where Jordan bought the Wonder Woman amigurumi (remember that?), so obviously that booth was our favorite and ended up being where we spent most of our money.  I'll tell ya, it's tough getting pictures of things behind glass -- all that glare!

This is one of my favorite things in the world... Captain Jean-Luc Picard and his many characters! You've got Locutus of Borg (BTW: resistance is futile, if you didn't already know), detective Dixon Hill from the Holodeck, Kamin with his Ressikan flute, and obviously as proper Picard. Man, he is just the coolest.

Video games up top, board games on the bottom.  And if you're wondering what that bright orange, feline-esque figure is in the middle shelf on the top row...

IT'S FIRECAT.

Firecat is a gift from the heavens Thrift Town, a thrift store here in the Bay Area - one of my favorites.  Best two dollars ever spent (and not just because he makes a good bookend!).  ;)

Have you scored anything sweet recently, either free or thrifty?

  2. Epic curbside find, and I'm so jealous of that Picard print! All those characters bring back such great memories :-) I'm a total sucker, but I think The Inner Light is still my soft-spot favorite episode from Next Gen.

    1. I wish I could remember the name of the artist! If I recall correctly, he made this print for Captain Picard Day in Portland, Oregon (BECAUSE PORTLAND HAS A FRICKIN' OFFICIAL CAPTAIN PICARD DAY). I cried at The Inner Light, but nothing will ever top the Locutus-sodes. Especially that moment where he goes and visits his brother and just breaks.down.

      I ... I ... who's chopping onions over here? :(

    1. Haha, Oakland and Berkeley are the places to go for that! I've furnished many rooms in my lifetime on free curbed items and dirt-cheap stuff from craigslist. Some things I won't skimp on, but I have definitely scored some massive loot for little to nothing on this side of the bridge. ;)

  5. OH GAWD, THAT PICARD PRINT!

Jeremy says "Tell her my birthday is March 14th" lol. Any idea what artist your friends picked up that print from?

    1. Hahaha, tell Jeremy "nice try!" ;) Man, I would be the awesomest stranger if I bought you guys one of those prints. Come to think of it, it'd make a pretty sweet wedding gift too!

Um, actually... that could totally happen. I would totally buy you guys that print.

I did some digging and found the artist -- Ron Chan, from Portland, Oregon. (Website: http://www.ronchan.net/wordpress/)
He's got the Picard print up under "Illustrations," and he says to e-mail him about prints. Just let me know if you're comfortable with that and I'll totally make it happen.
