birthday number twenty-five

Hi everyone!  I know I'm usually quiet here on the weekends, but I thought I'd peek in and share a couple moments from my birthday last week.  I came home from work (yes, I still went to work) and Jordan and me close my eyes at the top of the stairs and he led me into my room, where I saw this:

You may think "Why did he make you close your eyes for wrapped gifts?" but part of the gift was that table -- that space was previously occupied with all of my craft materials on the floor in front of that bookcase.  He bought me a table, put it together, unmounted my bookshelf from the wall, put the table where the bookshelf was and shifted (and re-mounted) the bookshelf , and transferred my crafts from floor to table.  It was an endeavor, and one he managed to pull together in a mere 8-hour work day!  And that doesn't even include what's wrapped there on the table...

He took one off-hand comment of mine "man, it's nice doing today's list sitting at a table and not cross-legged on the floor!" and turned it into once of the sweetest thoughtful gifts ever.

I was simply spoiled this year!  Jimmy got me Big Boggle (because holy shit, I love Boggle and straight-up kill at it) and this incredible set of Wonder Woman stationary (!!!) and Jordan got me a killer space-related hoodie from Threadless (soooo awesoooooome) and a sewing machine.  Dude got me a fucking sewing machine.  And sewing tools.  Like, I can't even -- simply spoiled.

Jordan also creates the most awesome cards for our occasions; this time it was a little card with the sweetest things anyone has ever written about me in it.  No drawings like he normally does, just text, but it was probably the highlight.  I am so lucky to have someone think so highly of me.  I don't use the word "blessed" hardly ever, but sometimes that word comes to mind because "luck" doesn't actually have anything to do with it.  It's not luck that brought us together, it was something like serendipity or just.. something unusual and wonderful.

I'll stop getting all mushy loveydovey now.  :]

So then we all made tacos (best!) and ate cake (delicious!) and watched NYPD Blue (doubly best!) and then played Boggle.

It was the best birthday yet.  It was nothing "special" but it was so special to me.  It was my kind of special, my kind of a good time -- and pretty unexpected!

At any rate, life is good... I'm off to do my last list for 30 Days of List and go hunt down a wall I want to take a Polaroid of.  Hope you're all having a wonderful weekend!

  1. Aww, how sweet! Happy birthday (again :D) and it looks like you enjoyed it! I prefer ones that aren't outwardly extravagant, but are just that - my kind of "special" :DD

    1. :D Thanks! And happy birthday (again) to you! Yeah, it was a pretty low-key night overall, which is more my bag than parties and big plans... I'm fairly easy to please. :]

    1. Thanks for the happy birthday wishes! I feel like I'm a bad gift-giver too but no one has ever outright said it. ;) Plus, like they say, it's the thought that counts! <3

  4. So, I totally commented on your blog last night and it appears it isn't here. Womp. Womp.

In other news... I think Jordan's gift is AMAZING. I love, love, love when people go out of their way to do more than just stop at the mall and pick something up. I just adore the image of him frantically working away getting everything set up just-so before you came home. What a sweet gesture, especially because he is clearly encouraging you to keep up with all of your crafting. It's awesome that he recognizes its importance to you. Yay for thoughtful boys.

Ian actually bought me a sewing machine for my birthday last year. I haven't used it nearly as much as I would like, but I intend to get my butt in gear this winter. There is no excuse for just letting it sit there unused. I need to start experimenting!!

Anyway, I'm so glad to hear you had the perfect b-day. Mine is coming up fast (8 days). I hope it's as low key and lovely as yours. xxx

    1. I was wondering about that! I read your first one in my e-mail inbox last night but when I came this morning to reply, it was nowhere to be seen. Whatever, Blogger. Anyway, I'm still glad you came back to write another. <3

Double-yay for thoughtful boys! I'm so grateful that Jordan knows me well enough to know that, yeah, you can get me something pricey and fancy, but I'd rather have a handmade card. Paint me something. Write me a song. Something that says that I'm more than a gift receipt. This gesture seriously warmed my heart and means the world. (I think he knows that. :])

Ooh gurl, get to sewin'! I seriously spent like an hour last night just trying out all of the neat stitches that machine can do... it went something along the lines of stitch, squeal, interrupt Jordan from his gaming to say "OMG LOOK AT WHAT IT CAN DO!" and then run back to do it again. Maybe this time I'll actually *make* something! I have the biggest plans, but I'm gonna certainly start small and work my way up to all those dresses. :]

Ooh, happy upcoming birthday! I'm sure I'll wish you one day of, but just in case I find myself dropped off the face of the planet...

  5. This post involves a bit of de ja vu for me! I turned 25 this year (in July) and my boyfriend got me a Singer sewing machine too! Along with a bunch of other awesome gifts. I do wish I had gotten Big Boggle though, because I kill at that game. Seriously. I challenge you! Heh.

Looks like you had an amazing birthday and Jordan sounds awesome!

    1. Happy belated birthday! I'm trying to formulate a "What if we're actually the same person?!" joke but I have yet to finish my morning coffee and I can't make it funny, only creepy in a dark sci-fi kind of way, so I give up.

omg I wish I had a challenging Boggle buddy! I felt pretty bad that Jordan and Jimmy (my roommate) just kinda kept getting slammed each round, but... but it was my birthday... :(

    2. Hehe well at least you have people who will play you. They must be pretty good sports. Everyone I know refuses to play... and then they warn other people not to play me either. Those jerks!
