Reading: The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. It's coming along slowly, this book, but that's not to say I'm not enjoying it -- I'm usually instantly engaged to books that are written (well) in the first person, I'm just finding it difficult to set aside a decent, regular chunk of reading time. That seems common, and needs to be remedied.
Watching: More of NYPD Blue, we're a little over half-way through season 6. These episodes are all brand new to me, and this season holds the record for making me cry the most out of probably any show I've ever seen.
Thinking About: Keeping up creative endeavors on a regular basis post-30 Days of Lists, mint green tea, crunchy fallen orange leaves, buying a new belt, what horror movie to watch this Halloween, commitment, tacos.
Anticipating: Colder temperatures! The fall months here are so mild, but we don't really see a massive shift in weather feeling wintery until late October, if not later... I have an awesome coat I want to take off the hanger and some hats that need some wearin', but it's just not.cold.enough. When the morning temperature drops below 50, I can justify coats and hats. Until then, hoodies and maybe a scarf if it's before 7am...
Listening to: I've had this song stuck in my head for days:
Ben Folds Five: "Best Imitation of Myself"
Eating: I just finished up a falafel wrap for lunch... other than that, I'm only ingesting tea!
Working On: Keeping the spam out of my work inbox (SO MUCH SPAM), eating better, getting my wardrobe to better suit my sense of style (what there is of it, anyway...!) instead of just what's comfortable, cutting down on needless spending (includes bringing my own coffee and breakfast with me to work, and exploring new lunch options), continuing journaling.
Wishing: For a nap, for more time to hang out with Jordan and play video games and take pictures, for waking up at 6am to get easier, for those I love to be safe and happy, for a home someday where I can have a big fluffy dog to look up at me and Jordan with it's silly grinning happy face, for tacos.
How do you preserve snapshots of who you are today for future viewing? :]

Happy happy happy happy BIRTHDAYYYYYYYY! (Sung to the tune of Bonanza.)
ReplyDeleteI hope you have the most amazing day ever. Enjoy your mint green tea. (I love that stuff!) Continue being awesome. Dancing like no one is watching. Sing some Ben Folds Five. Eat some cake, and, you know, do all the fun birthday stuff.
Sending tons of love you way, birthday chicka. I wish I could be there to crash your party/run around your work singing happy birthday with a Canadian flag hanging from my back like a cape, which would ... once the song ended ... become your birthday/honourary Canadian cape.
xx
Thank youuuuuuuu! I am gonna do all of those things you listed, and add in mourning the fact that I can't watch you run around my quiet office making "VVVVRRRROOOOOOOM" noises and wearing the flag cape.
DeleteAnd believe you me, I would totally rock that flag cape if I had one. It would be epic. I would have to find a tall mountain to stand on top of just so I can put my hands on my hips, stare bravely off into the distance, and have everyone take my picture as the Canadian flag cape flaps proudly in the wind.
Alas, this will have to wait. :[
Happy birthday to youuuu!
ReplyDeleteI love these 'Currently...' posts. The Hunger Games in particularly stood out to me for its POV - I'm not usually drawn to first-person POV unless they're exceptionally well-written, and I really think it's the POV that makes The Hunger Games series so good. Can't wait to hear your final thoughts on it!
Thanks! And right back atchya, birthday buddy! ;D
DeleteI don't know if The Hunger Games would have even remotely the same effect if it were written from any other POV... plus, when I was a writer (yeah, past-tense, but creative writing was my focus in school!) most of my stuff was written from 1st, so I just have a strong attachment to it. There's something about successfully drawing in a reader in such a personal way that I feel that perspective uniquely demands... it's just so cool when it's done well. :) I'll be sure to share my thoughts on it!
Happy birthday dear Kay-laaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, Haaaaapppy birrttthdaaaayyy toooo youuuuuu! (I don't know how into The Office you are, but if you've seen where Michael Scott sings happy birthday in a super high-pitched tone, that's what I just did for you.)
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a spectacular day. As for horror movies, I say watch them all! (I love the good ones and the bad ones.) I've been seeing previews for Sinister, I'm thinking it may be good?
♥ Jana
Awww, thanks Jana! You bet your butt I know exactly what voice you sang that in... The Office is brilliant, if not almost constantly and extraordinarily uncomfortable to watch. ;D
DeleteOoh, I haven't seen the preview for that yet! I usually stay in on Halloween night (I'm kind of a homebody) so I'll probably shuffle through what's available on Netflix Instant Streaming... last year it was The Thing, which I'll tell ya, if you haven't seen it, make the time! It's so interesting to see how horror has shifted over time -- The Thing was way more focused on slow, creeping suspense than sudden shock, which a lot of the newer movies I think do... but there are exceptions to every rule, of course. ;)
I'm 21 year old lady who still trick or treats and finished the night with horror movies. (At least this year I'll have the excuse of taking my niece trick or treating...even if she's only 11 months old ;])
DeleteThe Thing has always been on my list of movies to watch. I think I'll watch it this weekend!
Fun post! My friend brought me The Hunger Games a few months ago and keeps bugging me to read it... but I barely have time for anything else, let alone reading! And once I start reading a book I pretty much have to finish it that day or it drives me mad. Ack. If only there was more time in the world!
ReplyDeleteI subsequently have two copies of Mockingjay (the third Hunger Games Book) so if you happen to want a free hardback copy, let me know! I'll totally send it to you. :D
ReplyDeleteAlso, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! I promise I won't spam your blog with meme :P
1) Happy birthday! (again)
ReplyDelete2) I conveniently used Hunger Games as homework breaks last January - Tore through each book in about two days, I was so hooked. I think it would be very interesting to see it re-written in an 'adult' rather than YA format, given the potential of the contents. I think I have the same sort of morbid fascination with the Games as I do with Room 101...
3) Silly happy-grinning dog = Necessity of the Ultimate Dream Life =)
OH! I knew I was forgetting to comment on something - Your question! I think the closest thing I have to present-me snapshots for future-me is my poetry. But since that mostly only comes out with more... volatile emotions... it is maybe not a properly balanced sampling of present-me. XD I ought to add some other sources in there.
