back to your regularly scheduled whatever

I go through very bi-polar episodes with this blog where I have about fifty blog post ideas, I write 'em up, I schedule 'em, and then I relax... then before I know it, they're all live and none are queued up, a week goes by and I don't know where the time went and am left dumbfounded with how to proceed.

That's pretty much the case today, except I know where that time went:

Watching the Oakland A's.

This means I watched them lose, then lose, then WIN, then a HUGE WIN, then a HUGE LOSS and now my heart is a little broken.  But by golly, it was fantastic watching them do so well (holy crap, whatEVER 9th inning of game 4 against the Tigers!  That was magic!)

What a powerhouse team we have!  So exciting!  We're pumped here in Oakland for the upcoming season.  We'll get 'em next time. :)

I want to give the whole team the highest of fives.  (Especially you, Coco Crisp!)
Wrapping up some health appointments and stuff.  This means taking care of that teeth cleaning I'd been unable to afford previously, as well as going for the gusto and getting an IUD (no babies for me anytime soon!)  If any of you ladies are considering getting one of those yourself, I described my experience as such: "5 minutes of excrutiating pain for 5 years of reproductive security, less worry, less maintenance, more enjoyment."  So far, I am certain I made the right choice!  Even if it meant nearly hyperventilating and passing out on the table (no exaggeration)... but your mileage my vary.  ;)

Working on my Fall mini-book.  I purchased Kara's Fall In Love e-course [go discounts!] and have been very, very slowly working through it.  I found this cute chipboard mini-book at my favorite neighborhood creative reuse shop and thought that I'd try that format out instead of the stitched watercolor paper recommended in the course.  This gets me to try to work more creatively... breaking out of the square/rectangle book kind of deal.  I'm also learning more about the sewing machine, and how it reacts with different kinds of materials (like basic paper, chipboard, etc.).  It's slowly coming along, but it's coming along!

Scoring some crazy good deals.  1) I love IKEA and now have a lovely new wall-mounted shelf to hold my ever-burgeoning supply of craft materials.  2) Speaking of said supply, I managed to score what has to be at *least* $100 worth of craft supplies at a garage sale for $10.  We're talking several large $25 paper punches and books of scrapbooking paper and extras I may not use for a long while like embossing glitter... but holy moly what a score!  3) Also I love Target and pretty much anything with a Clearance tag makes my hands and wallet itch.  This was a no-brainer: Mara-Mi notepad and sticky notes for less than $3?  SOLD.

Trying not to buy out this Etsy store's entire inventory.  This is not a paid advertisement, but I ended up stumbling across this Etsy shop and I am trying to not buy ALL the things.  I bought one bar of the Rosehip soap which BLEW MY MIND and now I just want everything.  What's this whole "in moderation" business?  Anyway, it's all natural and handmade and luxurious as hell and I am so pleasantly surprised.

Anyway, that's what I've been up to during my world wide web silence!  Tomorrow, Jordan and I celebrate our 3-year anniversary, which will be spent at the Alternative Press Expo and then probably playing more Borderlands 2.  Best 3 years ever!  Best way to celebrate 3 years ever!

Happy weekending, everyone :)

  1. I too know the irresistible call of the Clearance section... And garage/yard sales. And Ikea is fantastic! Basically frugalness is awesome but can produce a lot of extra reduced-price temptations...

    1. Yeah, I can justify ten 5-dollar purchases but not one fifty-dollar purchase... how does that work? I don't know. But it has a lot to do with the usage of the words "CLEARANCE," "SALE," "REDUCED," and "BARGAIN."

  2. I have an IUD too, that shit was NOT fun. I almost passed out. But so far, so good (it's been about a year and a half for me now!).

I love handmade soap, I haven't bought anything from that shop yet, but they've been in my favorites for a while!

    1. Ooh girl, I hear ya. The doctor said I turned "a little green" (WHAT) and that she thought I was going to pass out, so I lied there with an ice pack behind my neck while shaking for a good 10 minutes. That is NOT a kind of pain anyone can ever prepare for... but I don't regret it!

The rosehip soap, again, totally blew my mind. I'll have to sit on my hands for awhile in order to not load up on enough soap to last me a lifetime (you get a *good* sized bar for $6.50!) but I know where I'm getting all my soap from now on. :]
