dreaming of...

I am dreaming of dresses and bags and wallets.  I am dreaming of seeing a skirt online and saying "Oh, I'll just make that myself!" and then doing it.  I'm dreaming of stitching on cute embellishments on otherwise plain garments to give them something unique.  Of scissors, of patterns, of pinpricks and re-fits and one-of-a-kinds.

For now, I will have to start small.  I'm sewing on paper, and plan to incorporate sewing even moreso in my journaling/"scrapbooking"/smashbooking/idon'tevenknowwhatitqualifiesas. Stitches and Polaroids and Staples and Glue... just until I can take some measurements and make my way to a fabric store.  Pillows, I'm coming for you!  And curtains, you better watch out -- you're next!

I'll make my way up to dresses, I will, I will!  I'm learning not to overwhelm myself with so many distant goals that I don't know where to start and give up entirely...

If anything, I've been given the gift of inspiration.  Now, I just have to manage it like a grown-up... you know, not giving up immediately as soon as I'm bored or unchallenged or overwhemed or hit a road bump.

But I know it's still okay to dream of big things.

  1. Dammit. I need to be a grown up too and get moving on some sewing projects. I think it's time to hit Craftgawker for some inspiration! :)

  2. Wow is that your machine? Pretty! I have my Nanas old machine and the only speed it has is FAST so I'm struggling a bit! I'm the same as you though, my ultimate goal is to be able to see something online and replicate it, i just need to stick at it!

    1. Yes, that's my machine! It was a recent birthday gift. :) I don't know if I'd be able to learn on a machine that didn't let me ease into it, especially since I'm noticing that my bobbins tend to go a little crazy and bunch up on the underside from time to time... it's been the source of many headaches and flips through the instruction manual, but I know I'll get a hang of it one day! Keep at it, it will be so satisfying when we save $100+ making it at home ourselves!

    1. Ooh, do it! It'll never happen if you don't start small and keep at it. <3 I don't know if you have JoAnn's Fabrics where you are, but it's a fabric store that offers "sew-along" classes where you just bring your machine... I've never done one myself, but it seems like a good place to get a guided start! Also YouTube has proven an invaluable resource as well :)
